The two giants roared as they buckled and fell
Now only silence and ash were left to witness the living hell
We whispered prayers quiet and low… Please God…
Please…Let no one be trapped and suffering below
As a child I ignored the hum that came from our sky
Only glancing on occasion and asking…
“How could something so big and so fat ever manage to fly?”
But now the Big Herks sat silent as if holding their breath
Together…we wondered what was coming…and what would be next
For seven nights I lay down to sleep…
No comforting hum from your engines… only the silence…dark and deep Then…ever so slowly your hum returns to our skies…
the sound of the C-130… sweeter to me than any mother’s lullaby
Now comfort comes to me thru the dark night
the hum of the Herk whispers… “Sleep in peace till morning light…
the C-130s fly the skies tonight.”
“Today…there were no attacks and thousands did not die…
hate did not rule nor spread it’s vicious lies”
I turn away from the window as I lay my head down
and saying a prayer… I thank God for that high lonesome sound
I know all is safe in America… my home
because I hear the C-130 and it’s sweet distant drone
And we resolve that these shall not have died in vain
We pray faith, hope and love washes away our terrible pain
and just as the sound of the Herk comes from above
so does the greatest of these…God’s Ever Lasting Love
God Bless the men and women of the Little Rock Air Force Base
And God Bless the USA - Amen…and Amen
