Women of World
War II
When people think of war they
often limit their images to the male soldier but
thru out history women have answered the call to
serve their country in wartime. Join us this
Thursday June 24th as we hear the wartime stories
of two women who served during WWII. Betty Krause
served in the United States Navy WAVES from
1944-1946. She was stationed at the San Diego
Naval Hospital as a Hospital Apprentice First
Class. Mrs. Krause will be joined by Dorothy
Gardner who served as a nurse with 156th General
Hospital in England. Also joining us will be Jeff
Meek a WWII historian, staff writer and columnist
for the Hot Springs Village Voice. His columns
include, They Answered the Call and
The Veteran's Vault. Mr. Meek has
conducted over 130 veteran oral histories for the
Veterans History Project at the The Library of
Congress in Washington DC. Each of the ladies
will tell their stories and Jeff Meek conduct a
round table discussion afterwards. Don't miss
this opportunity to learn about an often
overlooked piece of American History.
