The
Campaign for Little Rock
The dog
days of summer were the least of CSA General
Price's worries in August of 1863. Price had a
ragged band of rebels, a first rate Yankee
cavalry breathing down on Little Rock, and if
that wasn't enough Price had two generals
preparing to duel each other. It's hard to
believe but the situation was about get worse.
Before long Gen. Price would have one dead
general and another in jail for dueling.
Meanwhile the Yanks were still coming hard and
fast.
The Civil
War battles of Prairie Grove and Pea Ridge get
the attention but here in central Arkansas a
series of battles and skirmishes made up what
became known as The Campaign for Little
Rock. On Thursday August 21st,
Mark
Christ from the Arkansas Historic Preservation
Program will talk about the tactics, battles,
personalities and the last duel in Arkansas that
led to fall of Little Rock.
